Exhibition M A T by Milan Mihajlovic, Amir Omerovic, Tom Gefken

(Studio Floor, Zentrum für Kunst), Running until July 27, 2025
Open every Saturday and Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m.

The exhibition “M A T” is part of a collaboration with artists from, among other places, Bosnia, Berlin, and Bremen. At the end of May this year, three artists from Bremen (Oliver Voigt, Rainer Weber, Tom Gefken) accepted an invitation to Bosnia and Croatia. During their stay, they visited a children’s home in Bosnia that is funded approximately halfway through art donations. Once a year, Milan Mihajlovic and Amir Omerovic organize an art auction, with all proceeds going to a children’s home that cares for children aged 0 to 7. This collaboration between artists from Bremen, Berlin, Munich, Bosnia, and Croatia is developing into a long-term exchange, which will culminate in a museum exhibition in 2026.

New Residencies at the Center for Art

The new residencies in the fields of music, dance, and theater for the 2025/26 season at the Zentrum für Kunst im Tabakquartier have been announced. A total of three performing artists from Bremen and two musical ensembles will each receive financial support of 40,000 euros from the Senator for Culture of Bremen.

Out of a total of 44 applications, the selections in the music category went to PULSE and Marsyas Baroque. In the fields of dance and theater, the selected artists are dancer Paulina Bedkowska with her ensemble, director Katrin Bretschneider, and performance artist Lyri Milo. During their one-year residency, the artists will realize two productions. They will have access to the artistic and professional expertise, as well as the technical and spatial infrastructure of the Zentrum für Kunst. The residencies were awarded by two expert juries.

Welcome

The Zentrum für Kunst in Woltmershausen, which is just 10 minutes from Bremen’s city Center, is a hub for interdisciplinary art. Located in a former factory hall in the Tabakquartier, the Zentrum für Kunst provides spaces for performing and visual artists, as well as collaborative musicians, free of cost. This atmospheric and inspiring location combines professional production facilities with interdisciplinary exchange, creating a unique space of possibilities for cultural work. Explore the program here

The 5,500 square meter site comes alive with large rehearsal rooms, attractive studios, and inviting communal spaces. Artists in one- to three-year residencies and scholarships use this space to fully access the center’s infrastructure and nurture its creative spirit.

Spread across three spacious floors, the Zentrum für Kunst features two performance halls with backstage areas, 20 studios, a professional video and audio production studio, rehearsal spaces, exhibition and exchange rooms, offices, storage facilities, and event-related gastronomy.

The Zentrum für Kunst is extraordinary because it promotes Bremen’s independent art scene while appealing to a wide audience. Visitors can experience spaces for unrestricted artistic development, creative exploration, and a community rooted in artistic creation. Rehearsals and sketches turn into performances and exhibitions directly on-site.

Booking Requests

The rehearsal spaces and performance halls can be rented upon request, and are subject to availability. Professional cultural actors from Bremen, in particular, have free access to these spaces. This does not include the visual art studios, which have been allocated for three years through a juried selection process.
